Slip 29 - Sepik Highway

September 2007: a section of the Sepik Highway between Wewak and Maprik, prior to work commencing. June 2008: the same section of the Highway after the placement of gabions on both sides and now open to two lane traffic.

Ramu Highway - Madang Province

May 2008: work commenced on this section of the Ramu Highway, between Madang and Ramu. June 2008: progress on the same section of the Ramu Highway. Gabions are being put in place.

 

Slip 21 - Sepik Highway

September 2007: Traffic reduced to one lane in this section of the Sepik Highway between Wewak and Maprik. June 2008: Full width of the highway restored after gabions are constructed.
Standing atop Slip 21 completed gabions are Peter Burn, PMC Team Leader, Cassion Aron, PMC East Sepik Provincial Supervisor, and Martin Warek, East Sepik Project Engineer.

 

Slip 7 - Sepik Highway

September 2007:  A section of the Sepik Highway between Wewak and Maprik before work commenced. Traffic reduced to one lane. June 2008: Work on the construction of gabions underway on the same section.
June 2008: Slip 7 from the reverse angle, construction near completion on this section.

 

Pururari Bridge – Panguna, Bougainville

August 2007: Pururari Bridge, an RC box structure with spillway within the Panguna copper mine lease area. With the northern approach washed away, traffic is unable to pass over the bridge. May 2008: the same section of the Pururari Bridge with gabion walling in place (completed by local community groups). Tailings from the mine have been used to backfill the slope.
July 2008: Aerial view of the reinstated Pururari Bridge in Panguna. Before the works, vehicles were directed to the wet crossing, shown here to the left hand side of the bridge.
